The AFRICA COLLECTION
The AFRICA COLLECTION
Each year, The House of Opulence creates a limited edition scented candle collection. This year, we found our inspiration in African textile prints. We love its colorfulness, each pattern telling its own story, often a reflection of Africa’s impressive nature.
On our travels, we have seen these precious prints being worn with pride by the beautiful people of Africa, to whom we pay tribute through this collection. With our candles we spread our light, love and scent and 10% of our revenues go to carefully selected funds helping African communities to build a sustainable future.
We hope you enjoy the unique perfumes of this scented candle collection, which we blended with pure botanical waxes.
The Africa Collection consists of five different designs and scents. To check them out, please click here - Amiek Krakers
The story behind Reminiscence
Written by Amiek Krakers, founder & owner of The House of Opulence – As a little girl I loved being around my grandmother. She definitely was one of the most elegant women I know, always very stylish and very much ahead of her time. Sitting on her bed, I would watch her dressing herself and putting on her make-up and delicate perfume. None of it too much, always with subtleness. One of my favourites was her beautiful leather purse. I loved going through it, playing with her lipstick; the little perfume bottle; looking at some family pictures that were inside and from time to time steal a little mint. I vividly remember the scent of her purse, a blend of raw leather, perfume, a hint of vanilla and freshness of something minty.

Diary of a nose
The French bestseller The Diary of a Nose is the story behind the creation of a perfume, by Jean-Claude Ellena, the head perfumer at Hermès. Perfume creation is an exclusive and secretive endeavour. What is day to day life like for a perfume-maker? How does the creation of a new scent begin? How do you capture the essence of a smell on the skin? For one year, Jean-Claude Ellena kept a diary of his life as ‘parfumeur exclusif’ (‘le nez’ or ‘the nose’) for Hermès. (more…)
